Colt 1911 Value Serial Number HasColt 1911 Value Serial Number Has BeenHere is what I know, the barrel appears not be correct, but is it military Is there anyway to figure out the year since the serial number has been replaced Is there anyway way to find out who did the serial number replacement I would appreciate any input feedback anyone can provide. It appears the original serial number may have been defaced, as the surface area around it looks to have been messed with. It may be an early attempt to have the gun re-numbered, but not sure if its an early ATF attempt. Some people knowing about X numbers have also used them outside the system attempting to legitimize an illegal pistol. Your barrel from an early National Match and worth more than the rest of the pistol. Colt 1911 Value Serial Numbers Rendered IllegibleIn Hallocks.45 Auto Handbook, they are said to be replacement numbers for frames that had their serial numbers rendered illegible by the sandblaster during arsenal overhaul. I have found them listed in the Clawson book, here is what Clawson shows about X numbered 1911s: X1000-X1178 179 pistols on Apr24,1924 Springfield Armory X1179-X1180 2 pistols on Dec 23, 1924 Manila Arsenal X1181-X4385 3205 pistols from 1925 to 1953 Springfield Armory. Rodrigo y gabriela tamacun mp3Clawson also says that marking pistols with the initials of the rebuilding arsenal began in the late 1930s. So this gun looks proper, rebuilt at Springfield Armory probably in 1925, was most likely originally manufactured in 1919. I believe the gun to be original as other X examples I have seen online are consistent with stamping. Blackburn tp 3 manualIm no expert, so I have to ask: how would the serial be so thoroughly obliterated, with the USP marking just above it being reasonably legible. Foreign troops would have no reason to obliterate a serial number. Serial numbers were sometimes obliterated while a pistol was being refurbished, as some numbers were lightly struck to begin with. ![]() While X-numbered pistols are a reality in the history of M1911s, it is impossible to validate one simply because it is marked that way. As Doran has already stated, many X-numbers have been applied illegally in an attempt to legitimize stolen property. Normally, I dont even consider the purchase of these pistols unless there is official documentation. There were some pistols sold through the DCM to N.R.A. X prefix serial numbers. I think it takes paperwork like that to truly legitimize these pistols.
